BECOME AN INDIVIDUAL SUPPORTER OF THE EDC!

As part of the Family and Friends Action Council (FAC) you will make a difference in the federal response to eating disorders. Your support will help us reach members of Congress, federal administrators, and national media. There is no better way to stay on top of what's happening with eating disorders policy in Washington, D.C. and around the country.

As a supporting member of the FAC, you will demonstrate your concern about eating disorders research, prevention, and treatment.

Eating disorders have not received appropriate attention from federal agencies Congress, or the White House. Few insurance companies are willing to provide the coverage that their policyholders deserve. People with eating disorders often suffer or die, having lost their jobs, their insurance, and their savings in failed attempts to get adequate treatment. The Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy & Action is working to change that.

With the support of FAC members in 2003-2004, the Eating Disorders Coalition:
• added language into a major obesity and eating disorders bill sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), a bill that passed in the Senate
• visited every office in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate
• presented five public briefings at the U.S. Capitol
• conducted two Lobby Days
• hosted the nation’s FIRST policy conference on eating disorders
• met with the Secretary of Health and Human Services
• met with top officials in the Office of the Surgeon General
• met privately with top members of teh House and Senate
• worked with local and national media to raise public awareness about national eating disorders policy.

We expanded our presence on the Internet and on Capitol Hill, and mobilized volunteers and college interns in Washington and across the country.

With your support as a 2005 member of the FAC, we will match our 2004 achievements AND we will:
• host the nation’s SECOND policy conference on eating disorders and State Advocacy Summit
• host two Lobby Day events and three Congressional briefings
• increase our efforts to improve access to care.

We hope that you can help by joining or renewing your membership in the FAC. The EDC is a coalition of 26 member organizations, but organizational membership fees are not enough to sustain our work.

Your annual membership in the FAC is a tax-deductible donation that directly supports the educational outreach of the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy & Action.
