FAQs

What is involved in Advocacy Day?

Advocacy Day focuses on meeting with Congressional staff to educate them about eating disorders, share why it matters to you, and request their support for EDC's initiatives. Advocates are grouped into teams of 3-6, led by an experienced advocate, and will have 4-6 meetings with staff from Congressional offices in your state.

I'm new to advocacy, can I participate?

Absolutely! We'll equip you with all the info you need to be an effective advocate. You will not be alone: all advocates are assigned to teams of 3-6 advocates, including a Team Leader, who is an experienced advocate. The EDC team, as well as your fellow advocates, will help support and prepare you for an awarding day!

We'll host a virtual Advocacy 101 training two weeks before Advocacy Day, designed for first-time advocates or returning advocates seeking a refresher.

What is involved in the advocate training?

During the training, you will learn about the legislation you will be advocating for, meet your team members, and have time to prepare together as a group.

Will meals be provided?

A breakfast will be provided for all advocates. Advocates are responsible for lunch, which can be packed or purchased from the available cafeterias. A lunch break will be scheduled into your day. U.S. Senate dining options can be viewed here. U.S.  House of Representatives dining options can be viewed here.

We recommend packing snacks to have on hand throughout the day.

Do you have any recommendations for lodging?

A list of nearby lodging options can be found here.

Is this the right time for you?

Effective advocacy combines data and personal stories. Please be mindful of how sharing or hearing others' stories may affect your mental health and plan accordingly. It is okay to sit out this year if it's too challenging— your mental health comes first.

Is there a registration fee?

There is a $30 registration fee to offset the time and resources that go into organizing this event.
