Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need advocacy experience to become an Ambassador?
No! We welcome advocates at all experience levels. EDC provides comprehensive training, talking points, and ongoing support to help you become an effective advocate—no prior experience needed.
Who can apply to be an Ambassador?
Anyone passionate about eating disorders advocacy! Whether you have a personal connection to eating disorders, work in the field, or simply care about federal policy change—you’re welcome to apply.
How much time does it take to be an Ambassador?
It’s flexible! Most Ambassadors spend 1-2 hours per month on advocacy actions. You can engage more during critical legislative moments or less when your schedule is full. Every action counts, no matter how small.
What kind of support will I receive?
EDC provides advocacy training, pre-written talking points, legislative updates, and one-on-one support from our team. You’ll never be asked to advocate alone—we equip you with everything you need.
What if I’m nervous about speaking to legislators?
That’s completely normal! Many of our most effective Ambassadors started out nervous. We provide training, practice opportunities, and talking points to build your confidence. You can also start with written communications (emails) before phone calls or meetings.
Can I pause or stop being an Ambassador?
Absolutely. There’s no long-term commitment required. You can participate as much or as little as you’d like, take breaks when needed, or step back entirely—no questions asked.
Do I need to share my personal story?
Only if you’re comfortable. Personal stories are powerful, but they’re not required. Many Ambassadors advocate effectively using EDC’s data, research, and policy talking points without sharing personal experiences.
