GOALS

By focusing on education and collabortaion with Congress, we work to shape federal policy and drive meaningful change. Our goals are to:

  • Raise awareness among policymakers and the public about the serious health risks of eating disorders.
  • Promote federal support for improved access to care.
  • Increase resources for education, prevention, and professional training.
  • Boost funding and support for scientific research on the causes, prevention, and treatment of eating disorders.
  • Support initiatives that support the healthy development of children.
  • Mobilize advocates, including individuals, families, and professionals, to speak up for those affected by eating disorders.

HOW WE ARE REACHING OUR GOALS

  • Advocacy: We champion policies that address the challenges faced by people with eating disorders.
  • Educating Members of CongressWe develop educational materials and briefing sheets highlighting key issues and research, and regularly meet with Members of Congress and federal agencies. Since 2000, we've hosted two Congressional briefings a year.
  • Raising VisibilityWe organize Congressional events and Advocacy Days to bring attention to eating disorders as a critical policy issues. Our efforts have mobilized advocates nationwide and prompted thousands of constituents to contact Congress through regular action alerts.
  • Evaluation: We collect and analyze data, producing summary reports on federal efforts to address eating disorders.
  • Engagement: We actively communicate via FacebookTwitter, and Instagram to raise awareness, share policy updates, and encourage advocacy.
